Feb 24, 2012 – How Much Do You Love Me?

When I get all sorts of intensely angsty and emotional and what-am-i-doing-with-my-life-i-am-useless for no reason other than oh hai, TOM, Steve sets my head on straight:

B: “How much do you love me?”
S: “Twenty.”

—–

S: “If money didn’t exist, what would you be doing?”
B: “I dunno…”
S: “Would you be doing what you’re doing now?”
B: “Probably.”
S: “Then you’re doing the right thing.”

—–

In other news, guess what I bought yesterday?

How to Talk to Girls by Alec Greven

How to Talk to Girls, by Alec Greven is a fantastic look at the finer points of romance filtered through the wisdom of a nice normal 8 year old boy, and contains all sorts of hints and tips for getting that perfectly regular girl you’ve always dreamed of.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the brilliant YouTube video of the author himself describing the work:

And here he is on The Ellen Show:

Love it. :D

Feb 22, 2012 – Hearing Voices In One’s Head

Do you hear voices in your head?
I do.
They’re voices of four men I don’t know, and they are singing four part harmony, a capella, barbershop style, in my head.

And they just won’t leave me alone.

I can’t even hear myself think.
This paper I’m trying to write isn’t going anywhere fast.

But it’s kind of AWESOME.
It’s quite the brain tingling experience, being able to hear and manipulate each of the melodic lines and their voices in harmony to create new music.

If only I had the skill to turn that into music others could hear.
For now it’s stuck, and they’re ringing against all the walls of my head.

And it’s LOUD.

And if at this point you’re a little concerned about my mental health, don’t be. I may be a little sleep deprived, but these voices are the voices of a very talented men’s acapella group named Realtime, and their music is stuck in my head because I bought all their albums off iTunes and listen to them all the time.

Darned earworms.

Wild and wonderful and common to almost all of mankind.
And very very hard to get rid of.
:)

February 20, 2012 – One Eye Shut

I was walking home today, feeling generally annoyed more than anything, when a small knee high girl holding her mother’s hand walked towards me with one eye shut.

Then she scrunched up her face and switched eyes.

How wonderful, to be obsessing over one’s own stereoscopic vision for the first time.

I guess that’s why grown ups take pictures.
